I thought I would share some of the other things I enjoy on this page, so let's start with Laurel and Hardy!

They were one of the movies' most successful and best-loved comic duos, probably because their irresistible slapstick antics were underscored by an indomitable optimism. Beginning with shorts made at the Hal Roach Studios, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy struck a universal chord by sharing a contentious yet benign friendship that always survived whatever indignities their mutual bumbling brought upon them. This TCM Archives two-disc collection focuses on the team at their zenith during the sound era and spotlights two features produced by Roach for MGM. The Devil's Brother (A.K.A. Fra Diavolo, 1933) is a laugh-filled adaptation of the Auber operetta in which Stanlio and Ollio tangle with a notorious robber baron. The delightful Bonnie Scotland (1935) is a misadventure that takes the boys to Scotland and India.

Laurel and Hardy-March of the Wooden Soldiers

Few films in history achieve the rank of a beloved family classic enjoyed anew by each succeeding generation. The greatest comedy team in films, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, star in this elaborate musical fairy tale of innocence and optimism, now seen as never before in gorgeous, vibrant color. The boys are Stannie Dum and Ollie Dee, hapless employees of Toyland's toy factory who room in Old Mother Peep's shoe. Faced with eviction by the evil Silas Barnaby ( There was a crooked man...) Mother Peep needs to raise her mortgage, but the boy's plan to get the money from the toymaker goes awry. A spectacular entertainment with familiar music, high production values and charming performances by the much loved Laurel and Hardy, March Of The Wooden Soldiers is a must for any video collection, one of the truly great movies of all time.

The Art of Laurel and Hardy: Graceful Calamity in the Films

Some 70 years after their heyday, Arthur Stanley Jefferson and Oliver Norvell ?Babe? Hardy are still remembered for the comic chaos they created in film shorts. They gave us something to laugh at by reminding us of our own foibles, in a way that was genuine and unpretentious. The book begins by exploring their comedy in the early days of film. A chapter is dedicated to each of ?the boys??Laurel from Ulverston, England, and Hardy from the state of Georgia?as a person and performer. Further chapters explore the slapstick and gags of Laurel and Hardy and how the pair survived the transition to sound that left behind many actors of the day. It was only when they began to work for large studios, churning out cookie-cutter scripts, that their art began to lose its way. The book takes the reader through the ups and downs of their careers and to a final comeback. A filmography lists works from 1917 to 1951 with information on availability.

Stan Laurel
